intertextuality within my music video and website.

 MY PRODUCT

MY INSPIRATION

I was inspired by

MUSIC VIDEO INTERTEXTUALITY

this clip from my music video pays homage to the original song by simon and garfunkel
the songs surrounding it on the jukebox are all songs from around the 60s period to continue my vintage 1970s style
the songs i chose also are ones which i thought the target audience, who like the music of my band, might also enjoy
i chose to begin my music video with someone turning the song on and then the music begins playing. i began the video with diegetic and then faded in the non-diegetic song. this is an inter textual reference to iconic media moments such as: Pulp Fiction, Almost Famous, and The Royal Tenenbaums. These films are all ones which my target audience would enjoy, therefore allowing them to understand the references made to them in my music video.

- small intertextual reference to Grease and The Notebook; both films which contain a scene of a couple on a ferris wheel
- furthermore, more intertextual references are made to the film Grease later on in the music video, in the diner where the couple hide behind the diner's menus

- intertextual reference to Subterranean Blues music video by Bob Dylan

NEA UPDATE 14/10/25

Recently I have been creating fake merchandise for my band's website. I began by researching some actual merch pages on band websites for inspiration. I have, since then, crested an album cover swell as a car bumper sticker.

NEA UPDATE 13/10/25

9.10.25

Recently for my NEA, I have been editing my website by adding elements to my tour page such as links leading to a page where you can ´purchase´ tour tickets from a series of dates.

11.10.25

I am currently editing my website further by looking for images to add to the ABOUT US page for the band.

12.10.25

I am currently further editing my website by creating album covers for CDs and vinyls for the merchandise.

NEA UPDATE 7/10/25

In my most previous lessons, I have been working on editing my music video and sharpening it up. I have edited the scale of some of my clips such as the lip-synching ones. I zoomed in on the actors' face's in order to be able to see their mouths more clearly, allowing the lyrics to be followed more easily. Furthermore, I extended some of my clips and cut others down to match the beats of the music.

I have also removed some of the unnecessary clips from my video to refine the video further.

original feedback on music video and website

 MUSIC VIDEO

Some clips are too long, especially lip-synching clips, they don't need to play out the whole line of lyric-> action: cut clips, add unused clips

Some lip-synching clips are not in time with the music-> synch clips up

Not enough performance elements-> add performance elements eg- instrument playing

WEBSITE

Contains non-original photos->use own photos for suitcase and stickers

website editing 15/9/25

In this lesson, I created a subscription pop-up which appears when you click onto my website. I used my house colours to create a sense of convergence between my website pages and the music video.

making the sample music video: planning

AMERICA- SIMON & GARFUNKEL SAMPLE VIDEO

For my music video sample, I went to Chalkwell park with my actors, Anna and Joe, where I recorded multiple short clips in different locations using different shot types. I ended up using 5 locations in the video and included match-cuts and zoom-in shots as well as over-the-shoulder angle and close-ups.

I recorded around 30 minutes worth of footage and edited it using Capcut.

EDITING

For the editing, I used the editing software app Capcut. I started by adding the song to my project and then uploaded my favourite clips to the project. I cut some of the clip to create a match-cut (see below) and used a filter on Capcut to make one clip seem like it was filmed on a film camera.

I colour graded all my clips to give the footage a 1960's aesthetic by adding a yellowy hue and saturating the video. I originally colour graded the clips to be bolder colours but I didn't think that it matched the video's intended 'vibe' so I changed it.

STOP MOTION

To have the 6 second stop motion clip in my video I had to take a video, colour grade it and then screenshot it frame by frame. I then added each photo to procreate where I drew a pattern on each of the 50 plus frames. I then downloaded the edited photos and put them back in Capcut to edit them together to create a cohesive video.
